Frequently Asked Questions

I’VE NEVER DONE THERAPY BEFORE. HOW DOES THIS WORK?2020-10-11T20:18:17+00:00

It’s much easier than you might think. We need just need to know, do you prefer a male or female therapist? What is the best day/time to receive services? What insurance will you be using? We will verify your benefits in advance so you’ll know you’re out-of-pocket cost if any before you come in.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A THERAPIST?2020-10-11T20:19:01+00:00

The most important part of therapy is finding someone that you feel you connect with, who creates a safe, non-judgemental environment in order to work through your thoughts and feelings. Training and education are important factors. Our clinicians are all Master-Level and higher, many of whom are currently licensed in the state of Florida or working towards licensure under a qualified supervisor.

IS THERAPY CONFIDENTIAL?2020-10-11T20:19:13+00:00

Absolutely!!! Therapists may only share information related to your therapy with express written consent by you and you alone. In most cases, those who use insurance are giving consent for their insurance to have information about your treatment for payment purposes. Information cannot be shared with family members without your written consent as well.

HOW LONG DOES THERAPY USUALLY TAKE?2020-10-11T20:19:24+00:00

Although every person is different and there is no “magic number” people typically see positive progress in 8 to 12 sessions. The first 3 to 4 sessions are about building a trusting, safe relationship with your therapist and the real work begins between sessions 5 to 12.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY INSURANCE DURING THERAPY?2020-10-11T20:19:42+00:00

You have several options. MFS works on a sliding scale if you no longer have any insurance and want to continue with your current therapist. If your insurance changes, we probably take your new insurance so you will have a smooth transition and can continue to work with your current therapist. If you can no longer afford to pay anything but would still like therapy, MFS does have Graduate Students on staff who can see you for free so you can continue to receive services.

WHAT KINDS OF SERVICES DOES MARRIAGE AND FAMILY SERVICES OFFER?2020-10-11T20:19:53+00:00

We offer counseling services for individuals, families, marriage counseling, children, and parenting help. The ages that we service are from 18 months all the way to senior citizen and everything in between?

HOW DO I KNOW IF MEDICATION CAN HELP?2020-10-11T20:20:04+00:00

MFS works very hard to help you with all of your needs without medication if possible. However, speak with your therapist about it. If the two of you determine that medication may be an option, we will schedule an appointment for you to meet with our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to evaluate if Medication can help and if so, what medication in what dosage

HOW DOES TELEMEDICINE WORK?2020-10-11T20:20:15+00:00

With COVID-19 currently keeping people at home, all services at this time are delivered through telemedicine. MFS uses a HIPAA-Compliant video platform called Doxy.me to provide services. You can use this platform from any device with a camera and strong internet connection. Your therapist will email or text you a link prior to your session, and all you’ll need to do is click on the link and follow the prompts.
